At Grounds for Kindness, we believe that compassion can be shared in the simplest of ways. Every Saturday morning in Eugene, Oregon, we offer a hot cup of coffee to our unhoused neighbors, reminding us all that kindness is never wasted. Born from a heart of service and grounded in the values of Willamette Valley Behavioral Health, our mission is to create moments of dignity, warmth, and connection, one cup at a time. We know there are always grounds for kindness in everything we do.
Grounds for Kindness is a nonprofit outreach initiative proudly affiliated with Willamette Valley Behavioral Health. Established in Eugene, Oregon, the program was born from a desire to bridge compassion with action serving kindness in the form of a hot cup of coffee to those experiencing homelessness and hardship. Every Saturday morning, volunteers gather not only to pour coffee, but to extend respect, warmth, and genuine human connection to members of our community who too often go unseen. What began as a simple idea—that a cup of coffee can communicate love, dignity, and belonging—has grown into a community-driven effort rooted in the belief that kindness ripples outward, transforming both giver and receiver. By creating a space of compassion, Grounds for Kindness reminds us that small acts of care can make a big difference, and that we all have the ability to uplift one another. True to its name, this initiative affirms that no matter the circumstance, there are always grounds for kindness.
